Blinking for yes and no is good; also try letting him choose something with his eyes; for example, let Chi choose between this or that to drink, telling him to look towards which one he wants. Might work, might not, but it's worth a try. It can be empowering for him to be able to make a choice, if he is able to. Eventually he may be able to hold a pencil or straw in his mouth, and use it to spell words out on a paper held in front of him. That is, until he has use of his hands again...which will happen. Recovery is a long, slow process, my daughter is post injury 6 1/2 years and she still continues to get better. Cannot listen to the so called "proffessionals" they didn't give us much hope for Sammie, but I think that's because they don't believe in the powers of love and prayer! I also believe that you cannot play enough music, when sammie was sleeping, we would play classical music. during the day, we would play her favorites, the deftones, white pony alblum along w/ some of her other favs. They really don't know much about the brain.....it will repair itself around the injured part it just takes lots of time. At first, Sammie's short term memory was about 2 mins., and i am not exaggerating that. but the funny thing is she remembers lyrics to songs i didn't even know she had ever heard. and french!!??? we were watching football last nite and she was shocked and dismayed that it was 2009. it has been a long road for us as well, but it has made me a better person and i wouldn't let or want anyone else to take care of her. I only wish we would have had access to the hyperbaric treatments. Have they gotten Chi in the chamber yet? I have watched my daughter be reborn, literally, and she has grown up in hyper time. at this point, we are now at the rebellious teen years, which is interesting to say the least. The whole point is, recovery can happen, it just may not be in our time frame and hopefully w/the hyperbarics, Chi's recovery will be quicker!!!
