  1. Their determination to play is what made them big and gave them life in the first place.. I understand their determination to keep playing in order to save a life.

There is no way for me to understand what your family and what all the guys in the band have went through so far. But speaking from the few words i have heard him speak, the shows I have seen and the passion he has exhuberated at them, he reminds us what a TREASURE it is to be able to share moments together -that the most precious thing anyone can give anyone…is their time.

I do not have words for the little I know of Chi… or presume to understand much of anything in this world -but I can say that I am extremely, sincerely, appreciative of all the time he has happily poured into strangers, CERTAINLY the band and music itself!

And should that spirit now be only ONE TENTH of what he’s shown absolute strangers – with that heart on that sleeve, he’ll do MORE than get through this – he can do anything! My heart and thoughts are with Chi, you, your family, and Deftones (whom I have a large amount of respect for and have been moved by for years now).

I am reminded to be sure to share my moments honestly, boldy, and with healthy passion and to not forget how precious RIGHT NOW, simply writing words truly is.

If I could say anything to Chi right now it would be: Time is precious.. and I can not tell you just how thankful I am to have shared a little piece with you. Thank you from my heart, truly. A LOT of people are pulling for you and want you to be happy and healthy – … love always!

P.S. I’ll probably post this in a more appropriate place.. just felt compelled to write this (spur of the moment – straight up)

    • ABBEY-

Your post was BEAUTIFUL. Your words encapsulated what we all must remember to do, every minute of every single day:

“i am reminded to be sure to share my moments honestly, boldy, and with healthy passion and to not forget how precious RIGHT NOW, simply writing words truly is….”

I just wanted to thank you for your beautiful message. I know you wrote it for Chi, but it spoke to me DEEPLY. Think for a minute about how if EVERYONE could remember to live that way, what a different world we would live in. You have reminded me that its worth it to keep doing my part.

      Stay beautiful.

Thank you! This IS the mantra! – The trick is… not forgetting it when we get so distracted by tragedy, seemingly tragedy, or even for somethin as dumb as when we didn’t get BBQ sauce with our chicken nuggets –

It makes me feel completely great to have effected you positively! I hope it will do the same for others as well, including and namely Chi, Deftones, those close to him. – we need more love in the world! Certianly, there’s more than enough despair.

:D Thank you for your time too btw!

  3. I’m a huge Defones fan, and I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not feeling very comfortable with the fact that they going to bring out an album with Sergio Vega on bass.

I would rather wait however long it takes, and have the original band together, than listen to an album knowing there is one awesome member missing. I’ll think twice before I buy the album then.

I don’t know. Please tell me, am I being irrational?

    • i don’t think that it’s irrational to be uncomfortable with the change some people aren’t. i don’t know if it will help you or not but some fans are making peace with the idea by considering vega’s contribution a tribute to chi’s work and his spirit for hanging on. in the end you will have to do what you are comfortable with but i think it shows a great inner strength that they can do this.

i can’t even begin to guess at the emotions they would and will be going through with the album but i do know that the best writing comes straight from the heart and this should be a truly emotional work of art. i for one will be buying it when it comes out.

  5. I was lucky enough to see Deftones in London last week, it was an awesome show, but you could tell the guys wanted Chi back.

And as you know, there’s a lot of positive energy out there for Chi too. The crowd were chanting Chi’s name between songs on more than one occasion, he is missed.

    Get well soon bro.
