“Blink for yes. Blink if you want some coffee, Dai-Dai.”
Visited Dai yesterday at home. No big news really, just that things are progressing slow and steady, and that Dai is relaxed and responding. So good to see him out of the clinical environment. He is relaxed, and seems really happy to be home, with the nice cool breeze coming through the window. Sounds of kids playing outside instead of the ‘hospital chatter’ he has been hearing for so many months.
Either Jeanne or Mae is with him all the time, in addition to some outside help. Dai is so fortunate to have such loving and devoted family. He is surrounded by LOVE.
Jeanne was having some coffee, and asked Dai if he wanted some. “Blink for yes. Blink if you want some coffee, Dai-Dai.” Pause. Blink – blink. And Jeanne gives him a little coffee. It must taste soooo good to him. “Relax your hands, sweetheart. We need to do physical therapy now. Relax your hands. Thank you. I love you.”
I read Gabriel’s poem to him again. Gabe is such a great kid, and Dai has such a great relationship with him. I’ll be so happy to see them playing games together again.
There is music playing most of the time, although I’m not sure it’s his favorite music or his mom’s. Either way, its good stimulation.
Dai is a good man, a strong man. Between his own strength and the determination of so many who love him, Dai is getting better. But it is just an incredibly … slow … process. We are all learning patience and resolve.
To all the “One Love” family, thanks for being so consistent in your loving support of Dai and the family. We all check frequently for any posts from you, as well as for news from Gina, Jeanne, Mae and Ming. I cannot state strongly enough how much it has meant to all of us to know that there is a world-wide network of people sending love, energy, prayers, and even financial support to help Dai recover. It inspires us, and we love you for every comment and prayer. You make a difference – Thank you!

Rome was not built in a day, the Oak does not tower in a year, life does not glimmer in a mere blink of an eye.
All the beauty and power that Chi has put out in his music is coming back to him, it is only a matter of time.
Thank you, Aunt Mary, for this great update! It’s blogs like these that make us feel involved – plus it’s so great to hear that Dai is happier and relaxed; not to mention loved. Sending worldwide love to you, Dai, and to your loving family and Gina. One love – always.
I have just returned from Egypt where I did not get any internet access.
I’m overjoyed to hear that Chi is back at home, where he should be!
Keep up the great work. Thank You for looking after my hero so well
Much love

this is so true.. and no matter how long the journey.. i will be there for chi… as well as chi’s “one love” army!
one love for chi,
gina
For a guy I’ve never met Chi’s really made an impact on me, even more and more as I read about him and the lives he’s touched. VERY GLAD to hear he’s home. All we need in life is to know we’re home and being loved. Continual prayers for Chi and all family and friends, God bless!
It is just so awesome to wake up in the morning and hear good news!!! Recovery is a long, slow process, my daughter is post injury 6 1/2 years and she still continues to get better. Cannot listen to the so called “proffessionals” they didn’t give us much hope for Sammie, but I think that’s because they don’t believe in the powers of love and prayer! I also believe that you cannot play enough music, when sammie was sleeping, we would play classical music. during the day, we would play her favorites, the deftones, white pony alblum along w/ some of her other favs. They really don’t know much about the brain…..it will repair itself around the injured part it just takes lots of time. At first, Sammie’s short term memory was about 2 mins., and i am not exaggerating that. but the funny thing is she remembers lyrics to songs i didn’t even know she had ever heard. and french!!??? we were watching football last nite and she was shocked and dismayed that it was 2009. it has been a long road for us as well, but it has made me a better person and i wouldn’t let or want anyone else to take care of her. I only wish we would have had access to the hyperbaric treatments. Have they gotten Chi in the chamber yet? I have watched my daughter be reborn, literally, and she has grown up in hyper time. at this point, we are now at the rebellious teen years, which is interesting to say the least. The whole point is, recovery can happen, it just may not be in our time frame and hopefully w/the hyperbarics, Chi’s recovery will be quicker!!! Much love to Momma J and Mae and all who are caring for Chi, our continued prayers for you and Chi and many thanks to Gina! Stephanie
it’s so good to hear that he is doing good. chi has given so much to everyone and i think that everyone is more than happy to be able to give back what they can. we definately appreciate the chance to be involved and updated with what is going on with chi. so thank you gina for making the site and thank you to everyone who takes the time to make us feel connected even though we are miles apart.
Stephanie, thanks so much for telling us about Sammie. I don’t know if you have posted here before about your experiences, but I will make sure Jeanne sees it. — Aunt Mary
ITS GREAT TO HEAR GO CHI!!!!!!!!!!!
GOD IS ALWAYS WITH YOU!!
Thank you so much, Aunt Mary, for taking time out to share this update with the One Love family.
I pray for Dai, your family, and Gina every day and night, and when I sneak off for my private little prayer breaks during the work day.
I am so glad to hear that Dai is resting comfortably at home, surrounded by the love of family and friends, and our vast One Love community.
Peace and Blessings to you all!
GOD Bless!

Knowing to use his eyes as a means of communication is wonderful, isn’t it? Blinking for yes and no is good; also try letting him choose something with his eyes; for example, let Chi choose between this or that to drink, telling him to look towards which one he wants. Might work, might not, but it’s worth a try. It can be empowering for him to be able to make a choice, if he is able to.
Eventually he may be able to hold a pencil or straw in his mouth, and use it to spell words out on a paper held in front of him.
That is, until he has use of his hands again…which will happen.
Keep loving and believing!
thanks bruce..
blessings,
gina
he and gabe will be back playing video games together in no time… God of War III is hittin stores soon, and i know they used to spend Chi’s off time playing the first two games together.

My only connection to Chi is that I am a huge Deftones fan, but to know that he is receiving such support and love from his family and friends is an amazing thing. “Blink for yes. Blink if you want some coffee, Dai-Dai.” This passage nearly brought me to tears. I’ve made a very modest donation of $5 in hopes that maybe it can pay for Chi’s next coffee. I wish you and your family the best.

I’ve been following Chi’s progress for a while. Never commenting, but just watching. From an outsiders perspective, this seems like massive progress and you should be really encouraged by it.
My thoughts are with you.
