Electrotherapy & Protocol…

chi cheng, deftones

One Love For Chi Cheng!

hey all…

just wanted to let you know that when dr. defina and his crew were evaluating chi they started him on electrotherapy before they left. it is basically electro pads that adhere to the insides of chi’s wrists and send pulses for 20 seconds on then 40 seconds off repetitively for 7-10 hours a day, 5 days a week (if i remember correctly). momma j will correct me if i get anything wrong here.. i am going by what i remember the doc telling me while i was there and now and then my memory….. well you know how it is.  :)

so anyway.. chi has been doing this therapy and the other day stephanie let me know that chi was lifting his legs and arms. a long time friend of the family was there also and started verbally encouraging chi to lift them and he would try even harder.

so we are already seeing some results from this new therapy. dr. defina also told me that this electrotherapy will help in increasing oxygen to the brain… along with a multitude of other benefits.

dr. defina called me the other day and said they are ready to transition chi to the new protocol.. nutraceuticals/new meds etc… so that will be starting soon as well.

thank you all for your continued support, love and prayers!!!

one love for chi,
gina

About the Author

Welcome to One Love For Chi. As you may or may not know, Chi Cheng (bass player of Deftones) was in a car accident in November 2008 and is currently in a "minimally conscious" state. I launched this website to help raise awareness on Chi's condition and much needed funds to help Chi get the best possible care available and to provide for his personal needs. All donations are transferred directly via PayPal.com to the "Chi Cheng Special Needs Trust" that was set up by his mother Jeanne Cheng. Thank you for your support. -Gina Blackmore - (contact me)

That is extremley uplifting to hear.My father who was also a musician was in a car accident when i was abt.2 years old.He also was in a coma for a while and came out of it.He had no motor functions and could only communicate by blinking. My father died as a result of his injuries but i wonder if more could have been done.Anyway, it is encouraging to see that Chi will not have to suffer those same circumstances. He’s apart of the best band in the world!!!Loveya Chi, you will get there!

Can’t wait to see you back on stage, Chi! When the time is right, you will be rocking again, no doubt about it ;-)

Deftones is one of my alltime favourite bands, and I remember saying hello to you back in 2001/2 when you were playing in Norway. It was “just a hello”, but it definetly made my day!!! Stephen were sitting backstage smoking a fattie, and you just came out of these festival-toilet boxes. I was going to aproach you guys, but this guard threw my out of there. I wish I would just sneak back in again and hang out with you, it would have been worth the beating, haha!

I still have crystal clear memories of you when you started playing “7 Words”, even though I was pretty wasted! That was a big day in my life.

Get well Chi, and I will se you later!!!

When I saw Deftones at the Lost Horizon in Syracuse, NY back on the Around The Fur tour, Chi and Abe hung out outside with all of us fans for quite a while. Chi was the coolest dude to hang with – just the nicest guy. It’s so tragic that someone so talented but down-to-earth, such a good person had it all taken away like this. I’m pullin’ for ya man! Great to hear every bit of progress – I know you’ll be back out there again. KEEP FIGHTIN’!!!

he is in a minimally conscious state… yes he moves.. and some times will say a word here and there… he focuses and looks at you..

with the new protocol we should be seeing some improvements, baby steps, over time.

we will keep you all updated on progress as it comes.

  20. Such positivity from all of the outcome so far which is ecstatic. Good things takes time as our prayers are being answered towards our fellow bredren. May in time he shall be better yet it maybe be a while for his full comeback but all of us will be there with smiles on our faces. And I shall continue to keep my prayers.

Off topic — I wanted to bow my head for Nodar Kumaritashvili of the country Georgia due to his loss in his Olympic luge warmup. Just a tragic moment for another strong young individual. RIP

    Great news!
I am a firm believer in electrotherapy!
It really helped me after my surgery (although it was something completely different).
I could feel my body being stimulated and ‘coming alive again’
I am positive that we are going to see fantastic results.
Keep at it Chi – we are wishing you well in your recovery

I don’t know if you ever read these to Chi or not Gina, but if so, I just had to let him know what an inspiration he has been to so many people, and especially to me. I’ve been going thru some very emotional struggles in my life, with the death of some close friends peppered in between. But everytime I start to feel down on myself, and think about how bad I have it, I come to this site for an update on Chi. He has inspired me to get thru so much pain and suffering in my own life. Chi has influenced my life so much as a person and a musician that I just wish there was more I could do individually for him. My friends and I intend to pool some money together and bring that donation total ever closer to it’s goal. Keep improving, and inspiring as many people as u do everyday Chi. I am eternally grateful for how much inspiration you have brought to me thru your life…

    One love,
    Timmy

Its pretty amazing…how influencial our brother Chi has been & still is today. Even considering the state that Chi is in, he can still push me to be strong…not only for myself or with the events occuring in my life & in the world, but now we are here being motivated & inspired to be strong for him & for his One Love Family. Chi is literally showing us that sometimes you gotta grab life by the closest thing/object next to you & kick your way thru…lets kick this door down brother & rock that stage for old times & for new times.
I wanna say thank you brother…for challenging me to be a better human being & a true musician.

    One Love for Chi

I can’t believe its been over a year since all this went on, but im glad to see Chi is pregressing strongly. Im not gonna lie and say im a religious person by any stretch of the imagination, however, saying that i do feel that positive vibes have a direct impact on people in some form of unearthly way, and i think its working, i can feel, like im sure many people can, that he will pull through and be back to his old self if not better from the experience really soon, and if i had funds and wasn’t in so much debt i would plunge large funds to help out, i just hope my positive will is enough for now.
stay strong chi and may your recovery progress quickly like it is doing now

I keep checking back here and by God, tis unbelievable how much progress he is making; I can and can’t relate – at all. In 2004 I fell down a flight of stairs and had to get brain surgery as well as take 8 and a half months of full blown recovery (physical, cognitive, etc.). I met Chi twice after that fall and like Mike said, he was so full of heart and spirit – I never saw this coming. A friend called me the morning after this happened in November and since that day, I knew it was only by God’s grace I am alive and Chi would pull through – without a doubt in my mind. He is so alive. It’ll take awhile but he’ll be back.
