This Saturday at the Slidebar in Anaheim, California, a number of musicians are coming together to stage a benefit show for Chi Cheng, bass player of Deftones.

According to oneloveforchi.com, a site put up to raise awareness of Cheng’s condition and keep those concerned updated, Chi was in a car accident in November of 2008 and has been in a “minimally conscious state.” Recent blog posts by the site’s administrator Gina Blackmore have boasted of the progress the bassist has made, including being able to finally speak the simple word “Mom.”

The family’s bills have been sky-high, so many have come together to donate a few bucks here and there to help with the costs. Two previous L.A. shows raised $50,000 with the help of musicians such as Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park), Rob Trujillo (Metallica) and Mike Muir (Suicidal Tendencies). Even fans such as Sacramento’s Julie McKechnie have had local fundraisers to help this musician who has touched so many lives.

Since NAMM will be taking place this weekend, there will be plenty of rock stars already in town, and who will be making their way to the Slidebar (owned by rock band Lit) on Saturday night. The lineup for the show, put together by Danny Hill of Triad Entertainment, will include members of Deftones, Korn, P.O.D., Lit, Cypress Hill, Dave “The Snake” Sabo (Skid Row), Dave Buckner (ex-Papa Roach), Ripper Owens, Dave Ellefson, Phil Demmel (Machine Head), and many more. There will also be a silent auction featuring music memorabilia. Since the announcement of the event, Slidebar has decided to close off their adjacent parking lot and plan to bring in a bigger stage to accommodate the growing interest in the event.

Admission is free, but donations to the Cheng Family are welcome.

About the Author

Welcome to One Love For Chi. As you may or may not know, Chi Cheng (bass player of Deftones) was in a car accident in November 2008 and is currently in a "minimally conscious" state. I launched this website to help raise awareness on Chi's condition and much needed funds to help Chi get the best possible care available and to provide for his personal needs. All donations are transferred directly via PayPal.com to the "Chi Cheng Special Needs Trust" that was set up by his mother Jeanne Cheng. Thank you for your support. -Gina Blackmore - (contact me)
