This holiday season finds our family counting the many blessings that have come to us since November 08. There have been so many unexpected gestures of kindness and love from wonderful friends and extended family, many that were previously unknown to us. We asked the day of Chi’s accident that people send prayers, not flowers. We have been kept in prayer that has seen us through every crisis for the last year.

It has been necessary to move several times to stay close to Chi as he moved from one facility to another. Early in December 08, I received a call from the office of Tom Whalley, CEO of Warner Bro. He found out that we were staying in hotels and helped us to get settled in a lovely home near the hospital. Thank you again, Mr. Whalley, Kim and Liza for your consideration and assistance.

After Chi’s health insurance denied payment for further care at the great Rehabilitation Hospital that he had been in, Gina Blackmore made it her mission to try to get proper care for him. The OneLoveForChi website has become a haven of love and community for me and much of my family. Gina has dedicated her time and energy to bringing awareness to Chi’s situation and raising funds for his care. She has given us a glimpse of the hero that lies in the best of us.

Many of Chi’s friends and the people close to him have stepped up to offer support. Many came to the hospital and left in sadness. Some came, felt the great energy still around him and have been a big part of our lives with the faith that he will be back. So much gratitude to all of the artists and friends who have put on shows and activities. Endless gratitude to everyone that has given their loving support through the OneLove site. It has covered so much care and continues to do so.

Most of you know that Chi is a proud father. His wonderful son, Gabriel, has been by his side as often as possible. This happened because my always daughter, his mother, Adrienne, has made it a priority in her life. Thank you, Adrienne, for the sacrifices and support that you don’t hesitate in making and giving. Gabriel is the biggest reason that I know his dad will be back.

Chi’s friend in Romania, Hefe, has rallied the support of great bands all over Europe, doing one benefit after another, and they continue to put on shows still. They have spent so much time and energy and given without recognition except for the wonderful CD compilation that Hefe has put together. Thank you to all of our wonderful friends in Europe! When I asked Hefe about letting me cover his plane ticket to be at the benefit show in Los Angeles last month, he declined, saying that it should wait until Chi has recovered and his needs have all been met. Hefe, You ROCK! I cannot wait to thank you in person!

Most of you who go to the OneLove site know that Fieldy from Korn put together an awesome “Song for Chi”. He spent the summer working on it. He tracked down some of the most talented musicians (on tour or not) to take part in this amazing recording. It is a great recording and you are such a blessing, Fieldy!  Thank you for your great heart! Many thanks to all the artists that took part in the project!

I remember a particular lonely night in the hospital when Chi was in the middle of one of the many crisis that we went through. I was tired and felt very alone with him in the hospital room. Then I got a text from Juan, who has been with Chi and the band for the last decade. He was letting me know about one of my favorite artists (and the last artist that I had the privilege of meeting with Chi before her Sacramento concert). She had just heard about the accident. She was on tour and on stage took the time to say a prayer with her audience. You are the best and make me want to be a better person. You got me through that night and I appreciate your prayer for my kid. Thank you Dolly Parton!

So many artists came together last month in LosAngeles to join the Deftones at their two benefit shows. Many more contributed to the online auction that had one of a kind items generously donated. These were two magical nights with so much talent and love and community. Many thanks to everyone who gave of their time and expertise,  the musicians, as well as the crews and everyone that made it possible.

It has been such a delight to meet some of Chi’s friends when they would come to visit him. Shortly before we left Marin to come home, Brian (Head) from Korn and Sonny from P.O.D. came in for the day to check on Chi and pray with him. They have also kept him as a priority in their lives and we are so grateful. Head sold more OneLoveForChi shirts on his tour than he did of his own. Thank you Brother!

Sonny and Gina have made a pact to get Chi the best Neurology care that they can find. Gina found a New Jersey Doctor who founded the Brain Research Institute there and specializes in waking up coma patients. She and Sonny have been corresponding with him and it looks like this cutting edge Dr. is willing to take Chi on as a patient. He plans to set the protocol that we believe will bring him back. We are so excited to have him and his expertise available for Chi! Of course, part of his program is the use of Oxygen and the Hyperbaric Chamber. He has asked us to wait on using it until he sets the amounts of pressure, O2, and time that best suits Chi. That should be later this month. He has had the best success rate I have heard of in bringing coma patients back successfully. He is planning to come to California to check Chi and make a plan to wake him up. Gina and Sonny are making the arrangements. Please keep Chi in prayer that this is the miracle that we are expecting.

Sonny is also the force behind the benefit next month that Gina announced on the site. Sonny, Brother, you take my breath away.  I am sure that God is smiling when He looks at your good works.Thank you for doing what we couldn’t do without you!

There are so many more people that have lifted us and carried us, prayed for Chi and sent him love in many ways. Matt, Heidi, David,Sophie, Julie, all our OneLove family, you are such a blessing. Special thanks to our soldiers and people overseas who take the time to think of Chi and send him a prayer.. that goes to all of the ShitKickers in Iraq. Stay safe and come home soon. You are missed and in our prayers.

Last and certainly not least, I have to say that Chi is getting such loving care from his sister, Mae, who has been by his side all of this time.

I know that I have left out many wonderful people. How blessed we are to have so many people to thank that there is not a way to mention everyone by name. Blessings back to all of you and yours!
