…where to start?

Author: gina

hey everyone, sorry it’s been so long since we’ve updated you on dai. the first thing i want to start with is how dai is doing. he is doing great. the bone flap surgery seems to be healing wonderfully. and you can just tell that he feels so much better being whole again. he is much more focused and has started to listen and respond to commands again, like lifting his legs and forming words. he is very frustrated being in the hospital and knows that he will be coming home soon. we have moved mom out of the apartment and into a new one right down the street from me. it is a really wonderful place for him. everything is handicap accessible. we also found a wonderful dr. to take care of dai. his name is dr. joseph nguyen. if you live in the san joaquin area and need a great primary care dr., he is one of the rare old school dr.’s that still has compassion and doesn’t look at the patient as an insurance card instead if a person. if you want more information on him, feel free to email me (gina will make sure i get the email) to find out more about him. another great thing is that his office is close to dai’s new place. i can wheel him right down there, which solves the problem of how are we going to transport dai from here to there. unless i want to start to start selling my organs, the cost of arranging an ambulance ride is just out of the question.chi-cheng-home2

although mom and i have been feeling like everywhere we turn, there is a brick wall waiting for us to hit our heads against. however, there have also been so many things that are to coincidental to ignore. yes, we are terrified of bringing him home. as much as i hate having dai in the hospital, there was the comfort of knowing that if something happens, there are doctors and nurses right there ready to deal with the situation. we won’t have that at home. this weekend i will be staying with day for 24 hour shifts learning everything that they do for him. he will be so much happier surrounded by the things he knows and i really feel like there is something that will trigger him. and we will finally be able to get that man in the oxygen chamber. i am also determined to get his ass in the swimming pool. there are so many things that we will be able to do for him at home to stimulate his mind that we can’t do in the hospital. we will be able to start giving him his quality of life back.

another really wonderful thing was the last progress note his dr. wrote. she stated that he seemed to be tracking her with his eyes and was in a “minimally conscience state” as opposed to “vegetative state”. she dictated that he obeyed her request when she said to move his feet and seemed to be doing better every time she sees him. this is the first time we have had a dr. take notice to the progress that we have been seeing all these months. and just the fact that it is now on paper opens up the possibility of so many facilities that have slammed the door on our faces because they just considered dai a hopeless case, which is as far from the truth as possible. so thank you dr. s, for seeing what we have known all this time.

another huge gratitude i have to throw out there is to sonny (POD) and brian (head) for coming to see dai and jumping in feet first to make good shit happen for dai. also the song that fieldy put together for dai. and everyone that put their time and love into it. what a beautiful thing to do for a beautiful person. thank you doesn’t seem to be adequate enough but yea, love, respect and gratitude. what a amazing song.

so, as for now, the plan is to bring dai home in wednesday. everybody keep their positive energy going that he is ready and there are no more episodes. i’m looking forward to staying the night with him tonight. i’m bringing my dvd player and we are going to veg out and watch season 3 of dexter till the sun comes up.

again, i can’t say it enough, thank you angels.

    Hello, Mae!

Bruce from New Jersey, here. Thank you for taking the time to write this update and share with the One Love family.

This is such great news! What an answer to prayer! GOD is faithful!

I will continue to pray for Dai and your family, and I hope all goes well on Wednesday. Perhaps Gina can organize another prayer vigil here for that day, like she did the day of Dai’s surgery.

Please extend my well-wishes to Dai, your mother, and the rest of your family.

    Peace and Blessings!
    -Bruce

It’s been very encouraging to read the posts this weekend, and I am certain that Chi coming home is going to mean the world for him. I know I’m sounding like a broken record here :) , but things can only look bright for our boy right now. And it wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for our One Love family in cyberspace, showing our love for Chi. One love for Chi.

  5. Marta says:

Hi Mae-I can’t describe in words how great this news is! It does my heart good to hear this and I can’t believe that our Chi is finally going home.

I know you and your Mom are the best ones to take this on and I have so much respect for the two of you for your love and courage.

God will surely be watching over Chi and I just know this is the beginning of great things. Chi is such a beautiful person and he deserves nothing but the best in life.

I know….I’m singing to the choir! Love you guys and just know that alot of people have yours and Chi’s back no matter what and I personally will be here in faith and prayer for as long as it’s needed.

Take good care and please keep us posted.

    Love, Jude

P.S. Gina…yes a prayer vigil would be great on Wednesday. I wasn’t able to hit the chat room on the last one (at work as always) but you can bet I was there in spirit, and I will be there again.

  7. rhea says:

Thank you mae for the update. this made me smile and i felt joy literally fill me up. he’s a strong man and you are equally strong as his shoulder. i can only vaguely imagine what you must be going through but i know i would do absolutely everything for my own sister, no matter how scary or hard and thus i know that there is a lot of power in that connection between siblings. chi means a lot for a lot of us too, he is like a far away brother for a lot of us too, so i’m thinking the vigil idea jahwarrior064 was taking about above is very good. i will be there, either in the chat room and definitely in spirit.

don’t forget to take care of yourself too and godspeed with everything

    one love

  10. Tanner says:

Thanks Mae for the update, love to read about the details surrounding Chi’s current state, that brings us closer to him even though we may be far, in other countries or continents. Don’t quit we’re all behind you!

  11. Bernadette says:

This is great news! Like Rhea says though, you need to take care of yourselves. To that end, have you guys thought about respite? You know how they say “It takes a village?” You all need and deserve a village of support to bring our brother back. If you haven’t already, you might want to consider training others that you trust to care for and work with Chi. It’ll help provide more stimulation for Chi and help keep everyone’s energy up. If there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know!

  12. maria delia says:

  15. Chris says:

Wait, i’m really confused right now. Is “Dai” one of Chi’s nicknames? I’m reading the post and it says that Dai is coming home and all i can think about is “i hope dai is chi!”. Sorry for not knowing much, but i just found this website as i was digging the internet to find out information about how Chi was doing.

  16. gina says:

    yes – dai is chi..

    thanks for your support.

    one love for chi,
    gina
