chi-chenghey all..

first of all thank you all so much for making it possible to buy the oxygen chamber for chi. we still feel that the oxygen chamber is going to be the most beneficial in chi’s recovery. we are very anxious for chi to begin the oxygen therapy. our main priority is to get him to a place where he can actually use it.

i just wanted to give you guys a break down on where the fundraising money has gone so far…

  • oxygen chamber: $17,652.00
  • oxygen chamber concentrator: $2917.00
  • set up of chamber: $500.00
  • chamber disassemble/transport: $ 441.00 (when chi had to be moved out of the facility he was in before)

that is it so far. as you can see we still have a majority of the funds still available. i am also going to start a “wish list” of items that will be needed once chi is stable enough to go home. the goal is to first get his bone flap put back in. once he is recovered from that and discharged he will more than likely be in a convalescent type of facility until he is stable enough for home care. during that time we would like to be able to purchase a wheelchair accessible van so he can be taken twice a day from the convalescent to an apartment or rental home that momma j will rent to do his oxygen chamber treatments. this is the only way we are going to be able to get him started on the oxygen treatments because most facilities won’t allow the chamber.

wish list for nursing facility: (these are approximate numbers and could change as his condition improves.)

  • convalescent care: $15,000/mo.
  • wheelchair accessible van: $5000/down + monthly payments of ~$500/mo.??  (for use while he requires a wheel chair)

home care requirements:

  • hospital bed, collapsible wheel chair etc.. and all home care required equipment: $ ???
  • home care/trained home care assistant:  $ 5000.00/mo.
  • housing: $2000.00/mo.
  • continued physical therapy as needed: $ 2000.00/mo.
  • medication: $1000.00/mo.

we have tried giving the most accurate estimates knowing the minimum necessities that he will have while making the transition home within the next couple of months. we anticipate the costs to decrease as his condition improves.  i will be raising the goal again to $100,000. these funds will be used to provide chi with whatever he needs that can’t be provided to him by other means.

my husband and i are headed out to cali to visit chi on july 5th.. i will tell him how much you all love him and are in his corner fighting for him.

    Awesome Gina, thanks for sharing this with us! It is also good to see what else he is going to need so we all have an idea of how damn expensive this all is! Hopefully we all can continue giving so our brother can get everything he needs to recover.

    Very cool that you and your husband are going to see him! I am so jealous! Actually, I am jealous of anyone that gets to go anywhere really if you know what I mean. But VERY jealous you get to go spend time with him and the fam! Please do let him know of all the love and support he is getting from us…”The Universe”! Have a great trip and take care!

      you are welcome matt.. thanks. i can’t wait to see him. i was talking to momma j just now and i could hear chi making noises in the background… i asked to talk to him and again.. she held the phone to his ear and i told him how much we all love him and are fighting for him. she said he is very awake right now.

    Thanks so much for such detailed information. I know how hard it must be for you to maintain the updates, and to share what sometimes must feel like a very personal situation. But you keep us informed and feeling like we really are sharing in Chi’s recovery process. Each time I donate money, or attend a pancake breakfast/auction, or buy a OneLoveForChi shirt, etc., I feel like a part of the family. If Chi can feel all the love and caring, he will surely come through this, and return to do all that he is meant to do.

    thanks for informing us on all the expenses&i’m sure you will set this goal also!!!you seem to be very determined for Chi’s recovery,as we anticipate it as well..i think of him everyday&always check in…you know this by now…

    Damn!
    Chi should have been french! A major part of these expenses would have been paid by …the governement! …indeed lots of tax for us workers, but what a comfort when you re sick or unemployed….
    Anyway… we are all with you chi, don’t give up the fight!!

    it makes me sad, and angry, that you guys have to struggle so hard to raise the funds yourselves from practically the beginning of chi’s injury even though he had insurance.

    If it was not for good people and chi’s fans in this world i don’t even want to think about what would happen in this case.

    this country’s healthcare system is totally fucked and its obvious to anyone who is paying attention…

    thank you for being a strong person and persevering. i hope when chi is better he can speak out on our countries obsolete and inhuman health care system.

    hey there Chi!its the 4th of July and i couldn’t help but remember this was the exact day of your accident back in November…alot of time has passed and i just want you to know we are all still praying for you and we know that eventually your gonna be able to look back on all this!!!and i always have you in my thoughts and prayers and just want you to keep talking and fighting!!!!may the Cheng family be blessed on this holiday and know there are alot of people who love Chi as well as the family too!!!give Chi my love and hugs Gina when you get there!Be careful and enjoy your trip!!!!

    Gina, I work for a medical supply company in Arizona. I would really like to donate some of his home care equipment. Such as a wheelchair and what not.
