One Love For Chi!

hey family,

just wanted to take a minute to drop a line and share some good news that we got yesterday. first though, i want to send all my love to the olsem family for their loss. i can't think of anything that can be said that would help, it just should never have happened. you know, when i was younger, i never thought too much about buckling up. for me it was mostly to avoid getting a ticket. it never occurred to me that it might save my life when some idiot high on whatever, smashes into me. i feel differently now. i look over at dai lying there, looking back at me, i think about the pain ben's family and his girl feel that will never fully heal, i think of the kid who will be charged with manslaughter and have to live with knowing what he did. let's do everyone that loves us a simple favor and try to not let this happen again. i can say from experience, it does happen, you won't see it coming, so just be careful and live like it might. BUCKLE UP!

alright, enough preaching from me. we went to dr. nguyen yesterday. our last appointment was 4/30/10, so he saw dai 3 wks ago. when he saw him last, not much had changed. just a regular visit. well, yesterday when he came in, he took one look at dai and was floored. he couldn't believe it. he saw a man waking up, that most dr. would look at and say there is now hope. when i first approached him about being onboard with the protocol, he was apprehensive. we had finally got dai under control with the storming and now we want to put him on stimulating meds? he feels very different about it now. and the best part is that dai is only on the first new medication. here is the progress note he made about the visit:

PT IS SHOWING IMPROVED NEURO FUNCTION AND IMPROVED ALERTNESS AT THIS TIME. LIKELY ALL FROM HIS RECENT INITIATION OF THALAMIC STIMULATION PROTOCOL FROM INTERNATIONAL BRAIN RESEARCH FOUNDATION. INCREASED RESPONSE TO VERBAL STIMULI. DIRECTED MOVEMENT, WITH PURPOSE SEEN AND OBSERVED.

needless to say, we were pretty elated yesterday. sometimes being home with dai, it's hard to see progress because we are with him everyday. but for someone that doesn't see him everyday, there is a big difference. and this is just the beginning. when we first started the protocol, i was afraid to be hopeful because of the crushing disappointment that would happen if it didn't work, but now i can see it happening. and we have just started. earlier this week i wrote the protocol all the way out on a calendar and figured out when we would be done the first phase. it will be done in september. if this is what we are seeing already, what will we see dai doing in 4 months? i guess we will find out.

as always, thanks again for the support and love. ~mae

  1. Thank you Mae for your update and what an update it is… I'm so overwhelmed just from reading this, I can't even begin to imagine how you must be feeling…. So proud of Dai and his fighting ability and so moved by your love, strength and sheer willpower; which has made him develop to where he is now. So grateful he has the family he has! Thank you for all that you do… Please know that we feel so much love for your brother everyday – People still post messages to me saying how much Dai means to them and why – Even now after 18 months. I am so grateful you include us in his progress; your extended family. Thank you for everything – We are right there with you in spirit – One love – Always.

Mae: it's ok to be afraid of having hopes about it, it is definitely scary to think that things will not work, but from now on do not hesitate, no matter what happens we will allways know how much  we gave to Chi. Love, faith and hope keep us going.
    Hugs!

First and foremost, praise be to the true Living God, that His kingdom shall go on forever. It is foolish to think that we could ever hope to fully understand or comprend this vast existence, that we should be placed here to enjoy and share this experience with him, His creation. The Wyrm has turned the hearts of many against he, and His Name, that we should not honor and revere our creator. Though he has already been beaten, he still makes war against us, and His Name.
Many times throughout this worlds history, He has brought praise and glory to His Name, through His works and wonders, through His acts of Grace, that a certain people should again turn their hearts back to Him, and seek His ways. I pray that this will be turned into another example of His Grace and Glory, that everyone surrounded and touched by this man, and this band, that they be made to Praise, Glorify, and give thanks, to The True Living God, in Jesus name, i will pray.
    May His will be done.

  18. Thanks Mae for the update…Nice to see things looking up for chi :)     much prayers thrown his way

  21. this is great news. I don't know Chi personally, but I wish that he gets better daily and pray that he wakes up and gets better. Deftones isn't the same without him, and won't be until he rises up off of that hospital bed, and I know that'll be very soon. Good souls never go unspoken.

Don't worry, Mae. Chi'll be up and walking soon.
I'll be wishing and praying for you everyday.
