You Are All Chi’s Angels.. Thank YOU!

hey cheng army. i just wanted to drop a quick line to update you on a few cool things that have happened over the last week. we got dai in his wheelchair and outside for the first time in over 2 months. it was depressing as hell seeing him stuck in that room everyday. the first time we took him out, he just woke up, like it was the first time he was seeing the world again. we took him to a beautiful spot, under the trees with a view of mount tam. which happens to be one of his favorite places to camp. he once told me that it is one of only a few natural vortex’s in the world. the best part-it’s a healing vortex. we stayed out for hours, long enough that security came after me because there was a patient missing from the 5th floor. oops. he was really happy outside though. he started doing things that he has not done in a long while. like lifting his legs off the chair, on his own. he would just look up at the trees and listen to the crows screaming at each other. when the wind would blow in his face, he would just close his eyes and lean his head back. when we got back to his room and he got all settled in, after therapy and massages, he is pretty relaxed and ready for sleep. we had been asleep for about 45 min, lisa and i decided it was probably time to go and that he was done for the night. i went over to him and put my head against his. i whispered that i love him and was going to take off, but i would be back early tomorrow and we would go outside again. i asked him to please come see me in my dreams. as i pulled back, he stretched his arms and shoulders and neck, opened his eyes and looking at me said, “hi”. dai! he does this to me every time. he said hi several more times, so what could i do? sit back down, turn the music back up and just watch my beautiful angel rest.
yeah, i have had moments where i have gotten scared, fearing the worst, but then i remember who dai is. he has survived so much, and keeps fighting because he wants to come back. and there is nothing that dai can’t do. if he wants to get well, then that’s it-he will do it. and i see him trying everyday. every little accomplishment is a miracle.
i was hoping to get the bone flap put back in, but unfortunately he got another infection and the clock starts ticking again. but that’s okay. we will just keep truckin. working on a new plan. and things are actually falling in to place for a change, so far. we are going to bring him home. that is where dai wants to be. i found a great agency called “visiting angels” (great name) that will work out a schedule with us to be with him. the best part of having him home versus a facility is that we will have the oxygen chamber right next to his bed and will be getting him in it everyday. i think that maybe him being rejected from all these places is because he wasn’t meant to be there. he will be with family, friends that love him, and “angels” assisting us.
okay, so that’s where we are at right now. counting every blessings, every moment with dai.
as always, love, respect, and gratitude to all you angels out there, following this site, caring about our brother. i wish i could meet every single one of you and tell you in person. but know that we are all connected, through love, through dai.

thats really good!
your sounding optimistic; i had a brain injury a couple of years ago not as bad as Chis but still. the one thing that i really liked that my parents did was, when i was having a hard time remembering what i would eat was they got a dry erase board and would have me write what i would eat, and the time.
idk you probably have that kindof stuff figured out but it helped me so maybe it could be used towards his advantage.
Promising update. Love and prayers sent.

I just wanted to mention that I was watching a documentary on PBS the other day about a guy who had been a well respected musician in New York. One day while on stage something happened to him [can't remember what its called, but something went wrong with his brain] but basically it suddenly left him in a vegetative state. Doctors didnt think he was gonna make it, and if he did they figured he would be in a vegetative state forever. He stayed in hospitals for a year, not making very much progress at all, then his family decided the best thing to do would be to bring him home and take care of him. They knew it would be a lot of work but they were up for the challenge. After a year at home he made a 99% recovery. Now he’s living life and he’s back on stage playing just as good, if not better than before.
I only tell you this because you mentioned taking Chi home for his recovery… and after seeing that documentary on PBS I was like wow.. that could be Chi making that full recovery at home. Why not?
Anyway, hope all is well. Stay positive.
yep – i posted about him not long ago here: http://oneloveforchi.com/index.php/you-cant-go-by-what-you-see-you-have-to-go-by-what-you-know/

Such wonderful news! My heart is filled with joy to hear this. I dont know what else to say except we all love you & yours, and are all here pulling for nothing but the best for Chi.
much/oneloveforchi.ALWAYS.
I love hearing about the accomplishments he makes. They are all miracles, and he has so much to look foward to when he get’s better. He is so lucky to have such an awesome sister and family and friends like you guys. I have said this before, but again, it is no wonder he is fighting so hard. With all the love and support from everyone, and his will to fight, he will be back and better than ever. My mother always told me about guardian angels and how mine must have loved me a lot when I was younger! I think through all the good Dai has done, maybe he has collected an “army” of angels where he is and they are protecting him and keeping him motivated to fight. Whatever it is, I hope it continues and he will get the right care he needs whether it is at home or not, wherever he get’s it, that will be where he is supposed to get it. Love to you all!!!
NO QUIT CHI!!!
Matt

Thank you for this wonderful blog, Mae! Your whole family are such fantastic writers – it makes us feel like we are there with you; next to Dai. So happy Dai gets to be outside and feel the sunshine and the wind..
As we struggle on with the little challenges in our own lives, it’s inspirational to witness (from afar) Dai’s and his family’s strength. And we wish you the best of luck with moving Dai home, and with his care. All the best and all our love – always.
This update brought tears to my eyes. Chi is a fighter and I know he will come through this. He is so lucky and blessed to have such an amazing network of loving and supportive family and friends. My mom had Visiting Angels and they really are angels – they are a great organization. We were so lucky to have them taking care of her when we had to go to work. I am in nursing school and stories like Chi’s gives me the encouragement to be the best nurse I can. God bless Chi and his family. You are always in my thoughts and prayers.
